How to spend time around here?

Swimming in the Tisza: Free Beach at the 'dead-Tisza'
Around 10 minutes walk from the houses, 3 minutes on bike. (Mind that you have to cross road nr. 33 and the rails. For baby buggies, prams we don't suggested to take this journey!) Parking is for charge, you can get a daly ticket on a reasonable price. On the beach you find a playground for the kids, a well, showers and toilet. There are some buffets with various food and beverages to offer (in various quality). There is a 'beach-watch' service until 6 pm. the beach is usually clean, however mind what you step into while bare footed! You can rent kayak and canoe.

Bathing at the thermal bath
Around 5 minutes walk from the apartments, 2 minutes on bike. There are two renovated and two old pools. The large thermal pool really only recommended for the ill wanting to get better. The outside thermal pool is correct, however is crowded and is closed at winter time. The place is nice and clean, you can go there with children. As the bath hasn't got that much customers, it hasn't got too many services. From autumn to spring it is only open Friday-Sunday, and there is no outside heating. Other thermal baths nearby: Berekfürdő, Tiszaörs, Tiszacsege, Hajdúszoboszló.

Renting a flat boat with or without an engine
On the way to the free beach you find plenty of boat rent places and angler's bases. You will find normal sized boats with or without an engine. For the petrol you pay afterwards calculated on the amount you used. The personnel working at these places will help you to start up and will show you where is it worthy to go. They can give you tips on fishing spots as well. You can find bait. Please do not collect any plants while on the water, you might get yourself into trouble if you pick one that's protected. We recommend to go to 'Városi Kikötő' and look for 'Gyula or Ági'.

Flat boat tour to see the birds of the canals and the Tisza
The tours start at most of the bases for small or larger groups as well. (There is no group number limit.) The nearst base to our houses is the 'Városi Kikötő', you should look for 'Gyula, Ági or Bandi'. The guides know the water very well and also drive the boat at a professional level. You may ask any questions you have and they're usually great taletellers anyway. It's worth to bring your own binoculars, however there is always some around in the boats. There are different tours, you have to agree inadvancewhat would you like to see and for how long you want to be on water. For more details about the area see: www.hnp.hu

Kayak, canoe rent
Walk 10-15 minutes (5 minutes by car) to 'Flotta port'. It is very cheap and the equipment is good. There is toilet and buffet there. DO NOT COLLECT any plants on the water!

Water education-path on Poroszló
Next town, 10 minutes by car is Poroszló, may find the sign on the road, where to turn left. Very good path, you can see 10-15 different types of birds. It isrecommendedfor fowlers and is a must with children! We don't yet know the 2009 prices. We advise you not to try the restaurants in town, you might leave with adissatisfaction.

Bird watching
Fowlers might find good spots on water and on ground. Best places however are on the moorland part(can not easily be reached)closer to the Hortobágy region. You can get a (paid) guide and see rarespecies, but just by wondering around on your own you can see black storks, kingfishers, blue herons and large groups of different kind of birds.

Angling
You can - and you have to!- buy a daily ticket at any boat rental places. You can ask the locals and the rent personnel about good spots. There is always - but at extreme situations - plenty of fish, the question is: where to find them. At winter leak fishing is a must!

Cycling around lake Tisza
Apart from smaller phases the lake Tisza can be cycled around safely and comfortably on the new bike path. However it is permitted you might meet some cars on your way. There aren't many stops for bikers, but you can go into the villages around the lake and find out about the area for yourself. if you have any problems with your bike you find services in Tiszafred and the locals are always happy to help you out!

Horse riding
You find a stable on Tiszaörvény (belongs to Tiszafred) 10 minutes drive away from the apartments, where you can ride, and go on field. 15 kms away (of the road nr 33. on the way to Egyek) and much further on the Hortobágy (M33) you also find places of horse riding.

Handicraft
There is a long time history of pottery and basketwork in Tisazfred. You can buy from various masters, sometimes pottery classes for children are kept.

Museum
Kiss Pál Museum (Lipcsey mansion): small area and collection, however some very nice folklore items and relics from 1848. You can look around in half an hour, it worths it. The Nyuzó Gáspárs house belongs to the museum, where you can find out about the roots of local potters.

Hortobágyi National Park
MAll info might be found on www.hnp.hu Recommended: bird hospital (with kids definitely) on the Hortobágy. Other: carriage drive (on the original coach), animal stoking, the famous market of Hidi, horse show, gray cattle herd, etc...
